Projects

Below you’ll find a list of the projects I’ve lead or co-lead at the Silberman School of Social.

MSW Program Evaluation
The goal of this project was to develop online evaluation process for the MSW Program. Evaluations are collected for both our required courses and internships (field work). Data reflects student progress on required competencies for Social Work at the national level. Data is posted here for all current and prospective students and faculty to view.

SSSW Faculty Resources Website
The initial goal of this website was to support new adjuncts and faculty navigate the on-boarding process at Silberman and Hunter College when they joined. In 2016, I redesigned the website to include a new section on Teaching Resources including teaching with technology.

Online New Student Orientation
The goal of this project is to provide clear, but succinct, information for all incoming students. We moved away from lengthy narrated slide presentations to short animated videos (with transcripts).

Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) Online Course
Silberman has 600+ agency-based field instructors all over the NYC Metro area teaching our students. As a school of social work, we are required to provide training for all instructors. The Field Education Department offers online SIFI courses for those who cannot come to campus. I redesigned the course in Canvas to be a be more user-friendly, accessible, and branded.

Online Exam Administration
Students in the Human Behavior core courses are required to take exams at the end of each semester. We have been refining the exam process to reduce the burden. Exams have moved from the proctored exams in the labs to unproctored exams online and are hosted in Blackboard for 500+ per cohort. Administration includes setting up the exam, accommodating students with accessibility needs, addressing technical issues, and generating reports. The new challenges, of course, with online examinations is how to discourage cheating. To that end, we’ve randomized the questions, randomized the answers, and reduced the weight of the grade in the course grading scheme to (hopefully) reduce anxiety and the urge to search for answers.
